New Book Looks at Divorce Through Children’s Eyes!

A divorce can have a dramatic impact on not only the involved spouses but also other family members, especially children. The Divorce Blog has detailed in the past innovative ways in which children can deal with divorce, including an interactive computer game named Earthquake in Zipland. With that said, television veteran Audrey Lavin has created a children’s book, How I Survived My Parent’s Big Scary Divorce, as yet another means to help children cope with this major change in their lives.

This children’s book aims to help kids understand and cope with their parents’ divorce and get them to realize that they are not to blame. The book centers around little girl Maggie McFatcha, who is described as being extremely mad and frustrated about her parent’s divorce. Originally convinced that she is at fault for her parent’s divorce, Maggie comes to realize through the help of her parents and a “wise feelings” doctor that she is not to blame. Along the way, she learns how both of her parents still love her and that her friends will still like her even if she lives in two different homes.

Lavin, the creator of Animal Planet’s Amazing Tails, patterned this book around her own divorce and its impact on her two children. She is already working on a sequel to this book, I Have Two Houses and You Don’t. You can request a review copy of How I Survived My Parent’s Big Scary Divorce by calling 310-573-1760. It is also available for purchase online at Amazon.com and Borders.com.
