As previously detailed right here, Utah divorce legislation requiring couples to first attend a class about the divorce process before ending their marriage has been recently signed into law. Utah Governor John Huntsman Jr. signed House Bill 128 into law exactly a week ago.

Representative Lorie Fowlke had introduced this Utah divorce legislation in large part on her belief that married couples need to make educated decisions on divorce and especially learn how divorce not only affects them but also other parties involved, including children. However, even if wannabe divorces do not have children, they will still have to attend this mandatory divorce course on its legal, financial and psychological effects according to the new Utah divorce law.

Opponents to this recently-signed Utah divorce law had wondered whether it was a case of the government overstepping its bounds, especially when no children were involved. Apparently, this wasn’t a concern for Governor Huntsman when he gave the bill the final go-ahead on March 15th.
