Roman Abramovich $2.5 Billion Russian Divorce Believed To Be At Least World’s Biggest Divorce Settlement!

Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich has settled his divorce with ex-wife Irina for $2.5 billion, which is believed to at least equal the world’s largest divorce payout. While certainly not chump change, Abramovich apparently got off easy in this settlement by getting his ex-wife to agree to divorce in Russia rather than in London’s Royal Courts of Justice, where the couple resides.

According to a story in the Daily Telegraph, Irena would have been entitled to at least 35 percent, or $9.4 billion, of Abramovich’s $27.5 billion empire under British law. A divorce lawyer was quoted in the story as saying that if there is mutual consent in Russia, the couple doesn’t even need to go to court. The story added that Abramovich had to pay just $10 for the quickie Moscow divorce.

Abramovich, who is also owner of the Chelsea soccer club, will give his wife the $44 million Sussex estate they used as the family home in England. The $2.5 billion divorce settlement equals what U.S. medial mogul Sumner Redstone paid during his divorce five years ago. While $2.5 billion has been most commonly mentioned in the Abramovich settlement, some experts have said that it may have been as much as $5 billion.

The story reported that Abramovich’s decision to divorce was prompted in large part to his close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who allegedly told him to get his act together after being linked to extramarital affairs. Abramovich has been considered an item with model Daria Zhukova for a long time. The couple was spotted together in Paris earlier this week.

Roman and Irena Abramovich were married in 1991 and had five children together. It is believed that Irena will return to Russia with the five children.
