Divorce as a Literal Weapon - The Case of the “Irreconcilable Differences Bandit”
You may have heard some crazy stories about divorce in the past, but the following may steal the top spot. A California bank robber has been dubbed the “Irreconcilable Differences Bandit” after professing to a bank teller that he was going through a divorce and needed money. The “Irreconcilable Differences Bandit” is still on the loose, and being sought in connection with at least five bank robberies since December 22nd in California.
According to a story in the Pasadena Star-News last week, this middle-aged white man approached the teller’s counter during one robbery and told the teller he needed help wiring money so his wife’s divorce attorney wouldn’t find out. According to the FBI, the robber then passed a note demanding money, and said he had a gun and a bomb. He later sped off with an undisclosed amount of money in a late model Honda Accord, according to an FBI spokesman quoted in the story. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
It is believed that the “Irreconcilable Differences Bandit” began his robbing spree on December 22nd at a Bank of America in Beverly Hills and then struck a Wells Fargo in Glendale a week later. He is also connected with three robberies in three days. He is the main suspect in a January 3rd robbery of a Citibank in Santa Monica, a January 4th heist of a Bank of America in Pasadena, and a January 5th robbery of a World Savings Bank in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. According to witness reports in one robbery, the “Irreconcilable Differences Bandit” brandished a revolver.
The suspect is described as being 45 to 50 years old, about 5-foot-8 and anywhere from 150 to 175 pounds. According to the Pasadena Star-News story, he was last seen wearing aviator-style sunglasses and a nylon jacket with a polo shirt underneath.
